The first ever minimum wage was won by largely women workers from Cradley Heath in 1910.
After a 10 week strike the women chainmakers’ from Cradley Heath won their battle, established Britain’s first minimum wage, effectively doubling their wages overnight.
The Chainmakers’ Festival is the only festival across Europe that celebrates a trade union victory by women workers.
The festival takes place from 11am at Mary Macarthur Gardens (named after the trade unionist who led the strike to victory) in Cradley Heath.
