UNISON members in Children’s Services have given a huge mandate for a formal strike ballot against being privatised into a Children’s Trust.
97% of UNISON members voted for a strike ballot on a strong turnout. Our sister trade unions also balloted for strike action against being TUPE transferred into a Trust with the GMB receiving a 100% vote and Unite an 87% vote for a strike ballot.
The joint trade unions have shared these results with the Children’s Commissioner and Sandwell Council.
If staff still face their employment being privatised the joint trade unions have already set a date with Regional Officials to co-ordinate a formal strike ballot, which is likely to take place early in the new year.
If the Trust is about improving the service and not about attacking pensions, pay, terms and conditions then there is no reason for not giving us the security we have asked for with a ‘secondment’ model that would see staff remain as council workers.
