Don’t Let Racists Divide Us

The racist rioting hitting many towns and cities is a disturbing sight.

However, a number of towns and cities have seen significant numbers of anti-racists gather on the streets to significantly outnumber the racist mobs. This has demoralised them and prevented the level of disturbance seen in those towns and cities where the racist rioters have outnumbered the anti-racists.

The British trade union movement, including UNISON,  has a proud tradition of standing up to the fascist far right, from Moseley’s Blackshirts in the 1930s, to the National Front in the 1970s and then the BNP and EDL this century.

The far right has announced a demonstration in Birmingham on Saturday 17th August.

It’s time for all trade unionists, anti-racists and decent minded people to stand together on the streets and oppose those intent on creating racist violence and division in our towns and cities.

Further details of the counter protest will be posted here.

500 anti-racists gathered in Birmingham to greet the few far right protesters that turned up, but quickly disappeared.
