A joint UCU and UNISON pay claim has been submitted to Sandwell College for 2024/25.
The claim is for 10% on all pay points and includes a request to increase car mileage rates to 55p per mile. The 55p per mile mileage rate would then match Sandwell Council’s.
The claim of 10% has been made on the basis that College pay has fallen significantly in real terms since 2010 and that the College can afford it.
Sandwell College’s latest published accounts for 2022/23 are graded as being in “outstanding” financial health. During 2022/23 the College:-
- increased it’s income by £4.5million to £53.5million.
- salaries only increased by £1.3million to £24.2million.
- College achieved a £1.2million surplus before accounting for any other losses or gains.
- After a local government pension scheme actuary, the surplus was £9.3million.
- College reserves increased by £2million to £40million. There was also £11.5million in cash reserves.
Negotiations with the College are expected to begin in April. The offer from the College will be put to members for a vote.
