Unions have negotiated better rates for mileage at Sandwell MBC. From 1 January 2023 the mileage rate claimable will increase from 45p per mile to 55p per mile.
Subsistence rates for anyone required to work away from home will also increase from the current unrealistic rates to ones that bear some resemblance to reality. They will increase from 1 January 2023 and are as follows:-
Breakfast goes up from £4.48 to £7.71; Lunch £6.17 to £10.61; Tea from £2.40 to £4.19; and Dinner from £7.64 to £13.15.
Subsistence rates (not mileage) will then in future years increase by the Retail Price Index.
Sandwell Children’s Trust has also adopted the above improvements.
Please note that the improved mileage rate of 55p per mile will now contain a tax element due to it being greater than the HMRC rate of 45p per mile. The additional 10p per mile will be subject to tax.
